Dermal Fillers

Volume, definition & symmetry

Dermal fillers have become one of the most popular procedures for both women and men, young and mature clients alike to treat and enhance a range of concerns, from loss of volume & laxity to treating individual lines & wrinkles. Whilst popularized by the “Kylie Jenner lips” trend in recent years, contrary to common perception dermal fillers have been around for decades and there are many brands on offer which are both safe and effective when administered by a properly trained and qualified practitioner.

How does it work?

Most fillers used today consist of a similar (or in some cases identical) formula of cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is a naturally occuring substance found throughout the body with the highest concentrations in the joints, eyes, and skin. Hyaluronic Acid has the quality of being able to hold 1000 times its weight in water, and it’s presence guarantees at the skin level, elasticity, softness, brightness and hydration to face and body skin, and protects it from damage caused by UV rays, external factors such as smog and physical stress.

As we age the natural production of HA decreases, and the fat, muscles, bone, and skin in our face begins to thin. This loss of volume leads to either a sunken or sagging appearance of the face, fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and thin lips. Injectable HA is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial folds, and to create structure, framework, and volume to the face and lips. The effects of injectable hyaluronic acid are seen immediately.

Treatments last between 6 and 24 months and in some cases may last even longer, depending on the individual patient, the treatment area and the type of filler used.

Most clients find the treatment to be only mildly uncomfortable, with some areas being virtually painless and others slightly more sensitive. However, the procedure is relatively quick, with instant effects, little to no downtime and long lasting results which can be maintained and built upon over time - and the uplift in confidence most patients feel after the treatment in their daily lives far outweighs any temporary discomfort during the procedure. Nonetheless a combination of numbing cream and ice can also be used prior to the procedure to manage any discomfort or alleviate any anxieties the patient may have.
